What we work on
The Medical Ethics research group, led by Prof. Yeşim Işıl Ülman of the Department of History of Medicine and Ethics, works on the ethical questions raised by research and clinical practice. It contributed to the Bioethics Days 5 symposium on disasters and bioethics (23 November 2023) and has decided to be active in the main issues of bioethics and medical ethics through scientific activities, including the Dr. Şinasi Can Medical Ethics Days, the UNESCO Türkiye Bioethics Commission symposia on emerging technologies and on synthetic biology, the Neurotechnology Ethics Conference, and research-integrity training with the European Commission and the Network for Education and Research Quality.
The group also hosts the Bioethics MSc programme's lectures and takes part in the COST Actions IMPROVE (CA21139, 3Rs in biomedical science) and EDEM (CA21137, ethics in dementia), and in the Erasmus+ KA220-HED project Co-Learning Ecosystem (CoLE) on citizen involvement in nursing education.
