Prof. İbrahim Tuncay

İbrahim Tuncay graduated from Kütahya High School in 1986 and began his medical education at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. In 1992, he started his residency training in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the same university and completed his specialization in April 1997.
Between 1998 and 2000, he served as an Assistant Professor at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University. During the same period, between 1998 and 1999, he completed his military service as a Medical Lieutenant at Elazığ Military Hospital.
From 2000 to 2004, he was part of the founding team of Zonguldak Karaelmas University Faculty of Medicine.
In 2001, he worked as a Research Fellow at Sinai Hospital in the field of “Extremity Reconstruction and Limb Lengthening Surgery.” In 2003, he qualified for the title of Associate Professor following a national academic examination.
Between 2004 and 2008, he served at Selçuk University Meram Faculty of Medicine. In 2008, he was appointed as Professor to the newly established Selçuk University Selçuklu Faculty of Medicine and served as the founding Chair of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology until 2010.
Following the establishment of Bezmialem Vakıf University in 2010, he joined the Faculty of Medicine as a faculty member in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology. He served as Head of Department during various terms and held the position of Vice Rector between 2016 and 2022. In addition, he has served on university executive boards, senate committees, and in various administrative positions throughout his academic career.
His main areas of expertise include hip and knee surgery, arthroscopy, arthroplasty, and joint-preserving surgery. He has participated as an instructor, speaker, and invited expert in numerous national and international educational programs, courses, and scientific meetings related to his field.

Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tuncay represented Türkiye as a delegate at the International Consensus Meeting on Musculoskeletal Infection, organized in the field of arthroplasty infection.
He has authored numerous national and international scientific publications, book chapters, and academic projects in his specialty. He also holds a patent titled “Hip Distraction External Fixator.”
Current Position
As of March 2023, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tuncay continues his clinical practice in hip and knee surgery at Acıbadem Healthcare Group, primarily at Acıbadem Maslak Hospital and Acıbadem Fulya Hospital.
His practice focuses particularly on primary and revision arthroplasty, robotic joint surgery, joint-preserving procedures, and complex reconstructive interventions. With extensive international patient experience, a multidisciplinary approach, and strong academic expertise, he continues to contribute to advanced joint reconstruction surgery.
