Prof. Nurdan Tözün graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Medical Faculty, where she also trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology. A founding faculty member of Marmara University, she became an associate professor in 1984 and a professor in 1991. She served as Honorary Consultant at Charing Cross Hospital, London, in 1987, founded Türkiye's first Institute of Gastroenterology at Marmara University in 1992, and was Dean of the Marmara University School of Medicine from 1995 to 2001. In 2005 she was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London, for her services to her country and to the development of medicine.
She was appointed a founding member and Vice Rector of Acıbadem University in 2008 and heads the Division of Gastroenterology at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital. Her interests are viral hepatitis and inflammatory bowel disease; she holds an honorary doctorate in medical education. A founding member, president or board member of many societies and foundations including the AGA, EASL, UEG, MTCC, MMS, APASL, TKAD, TGD, IBH and TKV, she represents Türkiye on the European Section and Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESBGH).
