The 7th edition of the international congress Photodynamic Day was successfully held on May 16, 2025, at Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University, in celebration of the International Day of Light (IDL), a global initiative supported by UNESCO.

This year’s Photodynamic Day was organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Fabienne Dumoulin, who is also one of the national nodes of the International Day of Light. The congress brought together a vibrant international scientific community to explore the latest advancements in photodynamic therapy, photosensitizers, and biomedical applications of light.

The scientific program featured a distinguished panel of plenary speakers from across the globe:

Dr. Magali Gary-Bobo – Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron, Montpellier, France

Dr. Nela Malatesti – Faculty of Biotechnology and Drug Development, University of Rijeka, Croatia

Dr. Giulia Kassab – Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network, Toronto, Canada

Dr. Engin Akkaya – Dalian University of Technology, China, & Bilkent University, Türkiye

Dr. Georges Wagnières – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Switzerland

Dr. Srivalleesha Mallidi – Department of Biomedical Engineering, Tufts University, USA

In addition to these keynote talks, the congress included oral and poster presentations by young researchers and PhD students, creating a dynamic environment for scientific exchange and collaboration across generations.

The success of this event would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the Organizing Committee. The event was chaired by Prof. Dr. Fabienne Dumoulin, with support from Dr. Atefeh Emami (secretary), Dr. Ümit İşci, Dilara Sipahioğlu, Zeynep Uman Ulupınar, and Ossama Fakhouri. Their efforts were key to the smooth and successful organization of the congress.

With each edition, Photodynamic Day continues to grow as a leading international platform, encouraging collaboration, innovation, and excellence in the field of light-based science and medicine.
