What we work on

Bukemlab offers imaging of biological tissues and cells with micrometre resolution using scanning acoustic microscopy. The laboratory's research also covers the use of new and biocompatible contrast agents such as quantum dots in imaging tissues from brain to colon, the calibration of scanning acoustic microscopy against X-ray fluorescence imaging for distinguishing stable from unstable atherosclerotic plaques (with DESY, Siegen University and Boğaziçi University), and the antimicrobial effects of quantum dots on standard and clinical bacterial strains, supported by TÜSEB.

Led by Assoc. Prof. Bükem Tanören of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the laboratory hosts a large team of undergraduate and graduate students alongside academic staff from biomedical engineering, molecular biology and medical microbiology.
