Prof. Eda Tahir Turanlı
Professor and Head of Molecular Biology and Genetics; lead of IMGAL
Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics · Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University
About
Studies the genetics and epigenetics of neurological and autoinflammatory diseases, with multiple sclerosis and rare autoinflammatory disorders as the main lines.
- human molecular genetics
- multiple sclerosis
- autoinflammatory disease
- genomic sequencing
- epigenetics
Prof. Eda Tahir Turanlı began the laboratory's research activities in 2001 at Boğaziçi University and continued them at İstanbul Technical University before joining Acıbadem University, where she has headed the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics since 2021. Her team identifies candidate genes in familial cases through genomic sequencing, genotyping and bioinformatics, then characterises the variants functionally in cell culture models.
IMGAL's primary research areas are multiple sclerosis and rare autoinflammatory diseases. The laboratory collaborates with İstanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Marmara University, the US National Institutes of Health (NIAID and NINDS, on multiple sclerosis genome research) and Virginia Commonwealth University. She is also a member of the ACU-DEHAM board.
